Calangute is a place which has its own unique culture. The Goan culture in itself is an amalgamation of the Indian and Portugese cultures. Since the Portuguese ruled these places for several decades, their practices are seen even to this day amongst the Goans. Music is inborn in every Goan. Calangute being in the Konkan belt has several Konkani influences on its culture too. This place has its own unique form of music and dance. As a matter of fact, there are several popular musicians who hail from this region. Some of the well-known Classical Indian musicians are Kishori Amonkar, Kesarbai Kerkar, Jitendra Abhisheki, Prabhakar Karekar. Lorna Cordeiro is one of the most popular Konkani singers in Goa. The Portugese introduced the Piano, Violin and Mandolin to the Goan music.
People of Calangute
Even though the majority of people living in Calangute are Hindus, there is sizable population of Christians as well. Being a coastal town, most fisher folk are Christians. The Portuguese brought in the, religion of Christianity here. A small population of Muslims reside here too.
